Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
The item upgrade allows players to raise the level of equippable items such as trinkets, weapons, and armor within a certain amount. You can upgrade item s at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.
Slots are used to components to upgrade equipment to gain attributes and bonuses, as well as other effects. These are usually slot-restricted however, there are some universal upgrades.
Rerolling

To reroll an item, players must first unlock the upgrade Reroll in the shop. The player can select the Reroll upgrade at the bottom of their Level Up menu once the upgrade is unlocked. The player is able to roll 10 times per battle. The item's weight remains the same after rerolling, however, its power base and upgrades will be reset. The item will still be enchanted after rerolling.

Some of these upgrades are gems which can be created in the jeweler's workshop, and can be used in any trinket slot. Other upgrade components are inorganic augmentations that can be used in weapons, and offer a small advantage that doesn't increase the damage.
Requirements
Upgrades are an essential part of improving the power and effectiveness of your characters during battle. The upgrades to an item can increase the item's stats base or add an additional suffix or prefix. The amount of stats that an item can improve is contingent on its rarity and mark level. Upgrades are available in dungeons, raids, or purchased from vendors. You can also find them in random items or by looting other players.
There isn't a viable game design solution to the issue of the "not worth it" feeling that some players experience when upgrading certain items. The ideal scenario is for the game to surface more information about an upgrade in its compare interface, for instance "X stats gained, X stats lost." But, this is not practical to implement because of how complex is the process of comparing. There's not enough space in the UI to make it work.
An alternative solution is to develop an application that checks the upgrade requirements of an item prior to allowing it to be upgraded. This method is ideal for systems with only a small amount of upgradable items and simple upgrade dependencies. One example is a sword which can be upgraded from Sword +1 to Sword +2. Costs

Upgrade components can be inserted into weapons, armor and trinkets. They can also be attached on gathering tools. The majority of upgrade components can be replaced using an Upgrade Extractor. However, there are exceptions for glyphs that can be salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
The cost of upgrading an item could be gold and/or Dilithium according to the item type. Many upgrades also require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests needed to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum level for upgrades. Upgrading to the highest upgrade level can be expensive especially if you're upgrading PvE gear.
Upgrades can also alter a weapon's ammunition or damage die size. They can also alter the weapon's special properties, such as its unwieldy or operational property, or its hand requirement. Certain upgrades can alter the appearance of a weapon.
Before making a choice it is important to consider the costs involved in upgrading an item. Spend your gold on rare items and not on items of the standard or magical tier. These items are not worth upgrading, and rare gear will soon surpass them.
